Working out can make you feel great from the inside out. You will feel refreshed, satisfied, energetic, happy, and healthy. It has been proven that exercising releases “happy” hormones or endorphins that can actually make you feel joy. You can experience all of this when you work out regularly. Sometimes, working out can feel good, but sometimes, it can be hard to catch your breath, you don’t really feel like moving around and sweating, and sore muscles can be a (literal) pain, as well. You can love working out, but have days where you just don’t feel up to it. Or you can be one of those people who don’t really like working out at all, but know that it’s necessary for your overall health. Either way, don’t fret, you are definitely not alone. Sometimes, it is just really hard to find the motivation and the initiative to exercise. And “sometimes” may mean “all the time” to a lot of people. But that doesn’t mean that you should give up! The good news is, there are a lot of tips and tricks that can get you motivated to work out and even excited for it! Here are a few things you can do to get yourself the motivation to keep moving:
Get a Personal Trainer
Sometimes, you just really need a push from somebody else to get you up and working out. A personal trainer’s job is to make you push yourself until you achieve your fitness goals, while customizing your workouts and changing them up. This means that whenever you do achieve your fitness goals, they’ll set a new one for you and keep pushing you to achieve more. Trainers have different approaches to clients, so you just have to find the right one for you. Whether you think you need enthusiastic encouragement or someone who is a bit more aggressive, the key is to partner with someone who can really get you to exercise.
Make It into a Bonding Session
One of the best ways to get yourself to look forward to a workout is to find a workout buddy! It can be one of your best friends, a family member, or maybe even a special someone. Turn that regular workout routine into a bonding session or a catching up session. If you look forward to catching up and hanging out with loved ones, you’ll definitely look forward to seeing them even if it’s for a workout session.
Get Into the Right State of Mind
Working out isn’t always fun, but it definitely isn’t torture, and it will help you feel a lot more motivated if you resist this kind of thinking. Exercising can make you feel great both during and after. If you feel jittery, stressed, or even a bit emotional, working out can be a great way to channel and release all that energy in a healthy way. Exercising will also help you feel literally happier because of the endorphins your body releases as you work out. Afterwards, you might feel a little sore or tired, but that can feel nice, as well. You know that you’ve done something really good for your body and if you tire yourself out, you’ll get better sleep. Basically, there are so many more pros when you work out than cons. Get into the state of mind where you think that if you work out that day, you will feel amazing and do wonders for your body and health.
Another way to get yourself to look forward to working out or exercising is to give yourself a reward when you achieve a certain goal. It can be material things like clothing, gadgets, accessories, makeup, books, food, or whatever your little heart desires! Set up some goals for yourself like doing workouts 4 or 5 times a week or losing a certain amount of pounds and then reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done. Buy yourself something nice that you’ve been wanting a while or you can even treat yourself to your favorite foods. It’s perfectly fine to indulge once in a while as long as you don’t go too overboard with it.
Make It a Financial Responsibility
One way to make sure that you will feel obligated to work out is to invest in your fitness. Pay for a gym membership, a personal trainer, or some classes to give yourself some financial responsibility. If you pay for something, you’ll definitely not want to waste your hard-earned money and feel an obligation to get exercising. Paying for your fitness is worth spending your money on because you will be investing in your health, which is priceless.
Look Good While Doing It
Working out doesn’t always have to mean that you wear frumpy clothes, you can still look good in workout clothes. If you like fashion, get yourself some cute workout clothes that fit well and look amazing. Invest in some quality sneakers that provide you with the support you need and look great in that full wall gym mirror! If you look good in your workout clothes, it’s guaranteed that you will feel a lot more motivated to actually exercise in them.
Make It Fun
If you dread your workouts every time you have to do one, then you probably haven’t found the right one for you. Make sure that you do exercises that feel good and that you have fun while doing them. Working out doesn’t always have to be at the gym doing routine reps and sets. You can take classes, dance, and play a sport that you love. Take a few different classes to find out what you love, and make that your regular form of exercise.
Doing the same workout over and over again can get a bit boring. Sure, you can have fun doing an activity you love, but it never hurts to have some variety. Try something new once in awhile; take some new classes, try out a new sport, or learn a new activity. Whenever you’re feeling a bit bored of your usual routine, don’t be afraid to change things up.
Get Some Sun
Working out cooped up inside a gym can get old. One of the best ways to get yourself energized for a workout is to take it outside. Take advantage of a sunny day and do your exercises at a local park or have a jog around the neighborhood. Seeing the sun, breathing in some fresh air can help you feel enthusiastic about your workout. Not to mention, exercising outside, getting some direct sunlight onto your skin, and inhaling some of that fresh air into your lungs have all been proven to have a ton of health benefits for your body. So, if it’s a nice and sunny day, skip the gym and go outside for your workout instead!
Get to Work
If you find it hard to get motivated to work out sometimes or even all the time, don’t beat yourself up about it. Don’t drive yourself crazy with guilt. Instead of dwelling on it too much, once you get that feeling of not really wanting to go through with your work out, immediately just find some ways to make that workout session more appealing or find something that will make you feel determined to do it. Incorporate some these tips and tricks whenever you’re feeling a little lazy and you’ll surely find it in you to go and move your body.
