Pomegranate Grapefruit Juice Recipe
Fall is coming, and so is flu season! To help build up your body’s immune system naturally, you have probably turned to oranges in the past because of their Vitamin C content. But if you’re tired of the same old citrus, or if you’re not a fan of oranges, we have a solution for you! Pomegranates and grapefruit are excellent choices to pack in those immuno-boosting nutrients, along with a good bit of fiber to help keep you full and keep your digestive tract healthy. About ½ cup of pomegranate seeds contains around 72 calories, and 15% of your daily Vitamin C intake, which, as we all know, helps your immune system. It will also provide 18% Vitamin K, which helps regulate normal blood clotting and prevents osteoporosis. Its main punch is 3g of fiber, or about 14% of your daily recommended intake, and we all know a healthy colon means a healthy life! Plus, pomegranates are delicious. Additionally, half of a grapefruit will provide you with another 2g of fiber, plus 64% of Vitamin C, and 28% of your recommended Vitamin A, which is good for your vision as well as bone growth, and your reproductive and immune systems. Which means that this recipe can provide you with around 80% of your daily Vitamin C, so drink up:
-½ cup of pomegranate seeds
-½ of a grapefruit, peeled, sectioned, and chopped
-Splash of green tea, cooled
-1 Tbsp of chia seeds
-Honey, to taste
-Shaved coconut for garnish
In a blender, toss in the pomegranate seeds, grapefruit, green tea, some ice cubes, and about 1Tbsp of honey. Blend until smooth.
Put the chia seeds in a tall glass, and pour the blend on top. With a spoon, mix the chia seeds into the blend.
Refrigerate the mixture for about an hour, so the chia seeds can expand and make the blend more viscous.
Toss some shaved coconut on top and enjoy!
